The PDF format is the most popular way of storing and sharing documents. That's because PDF has a series of advantages over other document formats, like DOC or RTF. They are smaller in size, they can include various media content and graphics and cannot be modified using conventional applications. But best of all, they can be opened using a free and small application called Adobe Reader.

But in order to create PDF documents, you will need a specialized application. In this case, you could use AcroPDF, a simple program which can act as a virtual printer, allowing you to create PDF documents from virtually any application, like MS Word or Wordpad. After installing the program, the user will see the new added printer in the Windows printers list and will be able to set it as default.

At this point, whenever one wishes to create a PDF document from his favorite document processing software, he will only need to select the AcroPDF printer. A configuration window will then open, from where the user can select various options regarding the PDF creation process. As such, one will be able to customize the quality of the resulting PDF and will also be able to protect it with a password, so that no unauthorized user can open it or print it.

Besides that, various information regarding the PDF file can be added, like the creator's name, subject, keywords and so on. The font which will be used for the PDF document can also be chosen. After making all these settings, the PDF file will be quickly generated in the location chosen by the user.

Pros

It adds a virtual printer to the system, allowing you to create PDF files from any application that supports printing. Besides that, various settings regarding the PDF creation process can be customized, like the document quality, PDF version, protection password, document details and so on.

Cons

The demo version adds a watermark to any created PDF document. AcroPDF is the perfect solution for the creation of PDF documents, allowing you to convert any document into a PDF file with ease.
